Born, raised, and living in Honolulu, Norman Kaneshiro is the grandson of Okinawan immigrants on both sides of his family. He is co-founder and co-director of Ukwanshin Kabudan Ryukyu Performing arts Troupe, a volunteer Okinawan music instructor, and a lecturer at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Ethnomusicology Program.
